The Best of Carmo Blend
Carmo de Minas, a subregion of the southwestern state of Minas Gerais, has rapidly become the centre of Brazil’s burgeoning specialty coffee market.
Situated at a higher than usual altitude, Carmo de Minas produces coffee that is sweeter and cleaner than the typical coffee from Brazil. On a visit to the area in late 2011, our trans- Tasman roasting team, Heath and Fraser, had the privilege of cupping a range of microlots destined for the Best of Carmo de Minas auction. They noted a few favourites and Heath was fortunate enough to secure 3 lots in the subsequent auction.
Now, we are happy to present our Best of Carmo Blend, roasted specifically for espresso preparation. This blend consists of 2 of the auction lots, both pulped
naturals, from Fazenda Kaquend and Rancho Sao Benedito. On the cupping table we found the coffees complimented each other so well we decided to blend them instead of offering them separately.
Together they make sweet, dense espresso with notes of nut, toffee, and milk chocolate, with a lightly citric acidity, all carried on a mouthfeel of melted butter.
The Best of Carmo blend will be run through the Slayer in Auckland and Wellington and also available at Woodward St and through the online store.
