HACIENDA LA ESMERALDA
We’re quite excited to announce that we’ve secured an auction lot of the Panamanian ‘Leon’ from Hacienda La Esmerelda. Located in the growing region of Cañas Verdes, the farm sits at an elevation of 1700 ft. We were lucky enough to visit Hacienda La Esmerelda in 2011 and meet the Peterson Family who have farmed in Panama since 1967. The gallery above features photos from that trip.
Esmeralda Special is a rare, award-winning coffee that has set a number of price records at auction of previous years. This Panama Geisha variety came to Panama from Costa Rica having originated, like all arabica coffee, in Ethiopia. It has unbelievable acidity, a floral rosehip-like aroma, sweet notes of raisin and apricot and light and clean characteristics throughout.
When we had this coffe last year we had a very small amount, 30 kg’s to be exact, which all disappeared within five days. This time around we are lucky enough to have doubled that amount. We expect to receive the coffee early in the third quarter of this year and it will be available through our locations shortly there-after.
