The World AeroPress Championships, or WAC, began in Oslo, the brainchild of one of the industry’s biggest characters and a few coffee-minded friends sitting around in his coffee shop back in 2008. It’s now a highly-regarded international competition in its own right and holds a fiercely independent place on the global coffee calendar.
Coffee Supreme is hosting New Zealand's third annual WAC competition in Auckland on the 22nd July, in the race to Seoul for the world finals in November. It’s the coolest coffee industry competition in the world, and we’re proud to be hosting the New Zealand stop for 2017. Not a single coffee sack waistcoat or headset in sight.
On the night, rounds of competitors take the plunge to try and extract the best cups they can from the AeroPress, a modest and accessible brewing device. You don’t have to be a barista, or even work in coffee to enter. AeroPress is for everyone. You can also come along and support competing mates, drink some beer and watch some hard out brewing. For those not just there for the coffee, we’ll also have the 57th largest slot car racetrack in the southern hemisphere dusted off and plugged in. There’ll be prizes for the fastest lap time.
Register to compete here between the 6th-16th June, then get your practice laps in before we party in Auckland on the 22nd of July.
