Last night Semi Pro, Parallel, Scouts Honour and Coffee Supreme (that’s us) got together to compete in our first Australian Singles Night at our roastery in Brisbane. We all donned our nice slacks, applied a bit of refractometer, and put our finest single forward, in order to see who pulled the best.
An eager crowd of coffee-minded Queenslanders packed the roastery floor to try their luck at meeting that specialty someone. La Marzocco had us covered with the machines and sausages, Victoria Arduiro with grinders, ACME with loads of demis so we had nice ceramics to drink from, and Colonial Brewing stocked the beer fridge.
After everyone had downed a spro from each of the four singles on offer, the votes were tallied up and a winner announced. Ben from Parallel ultimately took home the grand prize of the best pull with a Colombian Los Lorenzos Washed Caturra.
Our goal with Singles Night is to provide a fun, friendly way to drink awesome coffees together. We know sometimes our industry can be a little introspective-thinking, maybe even intimidating. But, a little friendly competition and some free beer is always a good way to get people together and trying new things. Singles Night is for fun—score sheets are replaced with yum scales, drawings and creative writing are celebrated and there’s no such thing as a wrong answer.
After Singles Nights in Christchurch, Auckland and now Brisbane, we hope to bring heaps more Singles Night fun to other spots as well.
